Care instructions for your Medical Tape

How can I care for my medical tape so that it lasts a long time on the skin?

Updated over a year ago

You can play sports, swim and even visit the sauna with your Medical Tape. There are basically no restrictions; rather, the Medical Tape is designed to support your movements during your everyday life.

You can usually wear your Medical Tape for up to 5 days. With good care, it can even be worn longer.

Care of your Medical Tape

The following care instructions will help you extend the life of your Medical Tape and maximize its effectiveness:

  • Dress carefully
Be careful when dressing to avoid accidentally peeling off your Medical Tape.

  • Rinse out soap residue completely
If you use soap, shower gel or shampoo while showering, be sure to completely rinse your Medical Tape with clean water afterwards. Any remaining residue in the fabric of your Medical Tape could cause skin irritation. After showering, carefully blot the tape and blow dry it as best as possible.

  • Fixing the tape afterwards
If parts of your Medical Tape come loose, you can re-fix them with an additional strip of tape that we have provided. To do this, cut a short strip with sharp scissors, round off the corners and simply place the tape on the area that is coming off without pulling. This can significantly extend the wear time of the tape.

Removing your Medical Tape

Your Medical Tape should be changed whenever it begins to separate from the skin or when the skin under the tape looks irritated or sore. In most cases, the tape should be changed after about five days.

When it is time to change the tape, remove it carefully to avoid skin irritation. Slightly pre-stretch the skin and slowly pull the tape off in the direction of hair growth. When doing this, only pull off a short piece of the tape at a time so as not to pull excessively on the skin.

Cleaning and care of the skin after removal of your Medical Tape

After removing your tape, it is important to clean and care for your skin. Use a mild, ph-skin neutral soap and water, or alternatively micellar water or baby oil, to remove any residue from the adhesive.

Then apply a moisturizing cream to soothe and nourish the skin. However, do not apply skin care products if a new Medical Tape is to be applied immediately afterwards.

When choosing your skin care products, we always recommend using the ToxFox app to quickly and easily check for any harmful substances.
